All Things Oracle article: “What’s your choice for Oracle Forms?”

October 12, 2011 by

Last week on Oracle Open World we(iAdvise together with Grant Ronald) did a presentation on Oracle Forms Modernization.
We presented the possible options for an Oracle Forms application: modernize, upgrade, integrate or migrate.

In case you couldn’t attend the session or just want to know more about those options, you can read the following article on All Things Oracle: “What’s Your Choice for Oracle Forms?”

Oracle Open World – Larry’s keynote: some announcements

October 6, 2011 by

Larry talks first about Fusion Apps.
After a controlled test period, it’s now officially available.

And now for really the first announcement…
Larry Ellison: “Everybody has a cloud, we too need a cloud”
So here it is Oracle Public Could.
Great to see Apex is strongly supported.

You can move your application and data from your datacenter to the cloud and back without a problem.
The Oracle Cloud is based on industry standards(Java, XML, Web services,…).
Pricing is based on monthly subscription, and that’s all, no extra licenses.

A second announcement: Oracle Social Network.
Collaborate, share, application integration, BI Navigation, …
He even gave a live demo of the Oracle Social Network.

Oracle Forms 11gR2 announced

October 4, 2011 by

Today I had my session about Forms Modernization.
It was a big room and, although it didn’t seem that much, about 80 attendees.

Grant Ronald came on stage to explain that Oracle still doesn’t de-support Oracle Forms.
In fact, he made an announcement: Oracle Forms 11gR2 is released very soon.
The installation would be easier, integration with Oracle Access Manager, linenumbers in the PL/SQL editor and some more new features.

A lot of questions after the session and good critics.
So I’m pretty happy.

Oracle Open World starts today!

October 2, 2011 by

And I’m the lucky one that is in San Francisco!

So, what’s on for today…
Wake up, breakfast, presentation rehearsal and off to Moscone to register.

And we kick of with ADF EMG sunday.

This should be interesting when you take a look at that list of speakers.

And of course later on today the keynote by Larry Ellison.
Very curious about that!

Like I said before, tomorrow is my own presentation:

  • Session: What’s Your Choice for Oracle Forms: Modernize, Upgrade, Integrate, or Migrate? (session id 08262)
  • Time and place: Monday, 12:30 PM, Marriott Marquis – Golden Gate A

This will be an interesting session for all Forms developers and users!

Oracle Forms Survey

September 19, 2011 by

I want to call all Oracle Forms developers and administrators to fill in this online survey about Oracle Forms.

The results will be published during Oracle Open World.
As I’m interested in this topic(Forms and Forms Modernization) and doing a presentation on Oracle Open World about Oracle Forms(session 08262 “What’s Your Choice for Oracle Forms: Modernize, Upgrade, Integrate, or Migrate?”), I’m looking forward to the results of the survey!

Oracle Forms File drag and drop javaBean

August 29, 2011 by

I created a JavaBean that implements a “dropbox” in Oracle Forms.
It can be downoaded from the PJC/JavaBean library of Francois Degrelle.

When dropping one or more files on it, Forms receives the path and filename of it.
In the following example video the JavaBean is used to upload a file to the database.
For the uploading part I used Webutil.

Oracle Open World, build your schedule

August 26, 2011 by

As Oracle Open World is coming closer, it’s time to build your schedule…
Be prepared because there are so many choices.

So, here are some presentations I’m interested in and planning to attend.

Of course there’s my own presentation on monday.

  • Session: What’s Your Choice for Oracle Forms: Modernize, Upgrade, Integrate, or Migrate? (session id 08262)
  • Time and place: Monday, 12:30 PM, Marriott Marquis – Golden Gate A

When you are a developer working with Oracle Forms or an IT manager and have an Oracle Forms application, this is probably the session you should attend when you have questions about the future of Oracle Forms.
Together with Grant Ronald(Group Product Manager in Oracle’s Application Development Tools Division) we’re going to show you the possibilities of Oracle Forms in the future, not only with a presentation, but also with customer cases and demos.

What else is interesting on OOW:

  • ADF Enterprise Methodology Group (EMG) Sunday: 6 tracks about one subject: ADF
  • Presentations by Grant Ronald: starting with ADF?  Check his sessions and look how “easy” you can develop in ADF.
  • Four Ways to Transition from Oracle Forms to Oracle ADF by Wilfred van der Deijl(Monday, 03:30 PM, Marriott Marquis – Golden Gate A)
  • Reaching Out from PL/SQL by Lucas Jellema(Tuesday, 10:15 AM, Marriott Marquis – Salon 7)
  • Spend Some Quality Time on Your Oracle ADF Application by Aino Andriessen(Thursday, 12:00 PM, Marriott Marquis – Golden Gate A)
  • More interested in database(programming)?  Tom Kyte and Steven Feuerstein are “must see” presenters.
